The Silver Philharmonic is a celebration of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (Wiener Philharmoniker) was founded in 1842 by Otto Nicolai. Initially, it was known as the Philharmonische Academie, and its first concert took place on March 28, 1842, at the Vienna Musikverein.
The obverse side of 2023 Austrian Silver Philharmonics features a depiction of the Great Pipe Organ. This musical instrument is a fixture within the Musikverein where the orchestra performs and is the third such pipe organ to have been installed in the building during its long history.
On the reverse field of 2023 1 oz Silver Philharmonic Coins is a collection of musical instruments. In total, you’ll find eight instruments on this field of the coin. There is a cello front-and-center in the design, flanked on either side by two violins. The background contains a harp, a bassoon, and a French horn.
