Product Information

1 oz South African Gold Krugerrand Coin (Random Year)

South Africa has long been a hotbed of precious metal and gemstone mining. The country is home to some of the largest gold reserves found in the world, and it is no surprise that the nation was the first to issue a commemorative gold bullion coin as a national marketing tool. Today, Bitgolder offers the 1 oz South African Gold Krugerrand with various years of issue.

Coin Highlights:

Ships to you in protective plastic flips, or in tubes of 10! First introduced in 1967. Designed by Otto Schultz and Coert Steynberg. Honors Boer statesman Paul Kruger. Contains 1 oz of 22-karat gold (.9167). One of the most popular bullion coins in history. The South African Gold Krugerrand was introduced in 1967 as the official bullion coin of South Africa, and became the first commemorative gold bullion coin on the market as a vehicle for private gold ownership. The coin was uncontested in the market for more than 12 years, with the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf offering the first challenge.

South African Gold Krugerrand coins were the first bullion coins issued legal tender status, but they do not bear a face value engraving on them. The obverse image of Paul Kruger, the four-term President of the South African Republic, was created for this coin in 1967.

The reverse image of the springbok, a native antelope species and national symbol of South Africa, was created by Coert Steynberg. This image had previously appeared on the reverse side of South African five shilling coins. Inscriptions on both sides of the coin are featured in the local Afrikaans dialect and English.

Krugerrand coins in this product listing have various years of issue. The coins in this listing come with the possibility of signs of wear and tear from handling, such as abrasions or light wear and tear. Bitgolder is not able to guarantee a particular year or condition for the coin you receive. Buying multiples can result in receiving several matching coins.

Nearly 22 million South African Gold Krugerrands were sold and shipped to buyers in the United States alone between 1967 and 1979 when Western nations enacted an embargo on South African goods in retaliation for its apartheid policies. Today it remains a popular product, and is available in bullion and proof, with fractional weights of ½ oz., ¼ oz., and 1/10 oz. now struck as well.

The 1 oz Gold Krugerrand has been the staple of the Krugerrand Series for more than half a century. In honor of the 50th anniversary in 2017, a Silver Krugerrand was introduced. While that coin has proven popular, the 1 oz Gold Krugerrand remains the most coveted coin in the series.

We urge you to review this section attentively.

In the event of a lost or damaged package, we will proceed with a claim. We retain the discretion to either re-ship your items or issue a refund.

It is advisable to decline acceptance of any shipment that shows signs of damage or tampering, as the shipping insurance ceases upon signing for or receiving the package. The arrival of your order is determined by three main factors:

  1. Payment Receipt: Upon receiving your payment, you will be sent a Paid email. Please note that checks and wires must be initiated/sent by you.

  2. Holding Period: After the payment is cleared, we will hold the order for a specified period. The hold periods for each payment method are detailed in the checkout and your confirmation email. In some cases, such as fast cryptocurrency payments like BTC lighting network, the hold may be instant.

  3. Shipping Method and Transit Time: Our 3-Day Air shipping method is the fastest and most reliable, typically delivering within 1-3 business days once in transit. USPS, on the other hand, is less consistent in both transit time and tracking accuracy.

All packages shipped by Bitgolder are insured under specific conditions. In the rare event that your order is Lost in Transit, it is crucial to contact us immediately. For USPS, Lost in Transit is defined as tracking not updating for 5 or more calendar days, while for UPS, it is 3 calendar days. You must reach out to us within 7 days since the last tracking for USPS and 3 days since the last tracking for UPS. Failure to do so within these timeframes will result in the package not being covered by insurance.

Upon contacting us, we will conduct a thorough investigation with the carrier and initiate the claim process. Please note that the claims process may take 30 or more days to resolve, and many Lost in Transit shipments end up being delivered late. If the package is eventually delivered, you must notify us within 24 hours.

For further details, refer to Section 13 of our Terms and Conditions.
