- Obverse: Designed by Martin Jennings, the obverse features King Charles III in left-profile relief, without a crown. This is the first time a monarch other than Queen Elizabeth II has appeared on a bullion version of the British Gold Sovereign.
- Reverse: The reverse, designed by Jody Clark, displays the Royal Arms of England. The design includes the Lion of England and the Unicorn of Scotland supporting a shield topped by a crown, which displays the coats of arms for England, Ireland, and Scotland.

The British Sovereign has a rich history dating back to 1817, originating from the Great Recoinage of 1816.
