American Gold Eagles were introduced by the United States Mint in 1986 with 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold coins offered by the mint. The coins debuted as the fourth modern gold bullion coin in 1986, entering the market after the Gold Krugerrand, Gold Maple Leaf, and Gold Panda.

In the obverse design of the 2024 American Gold Eagle, you will find Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ historic image of Liberty. This front-facing bust captures the full-length figure of Liberty walking toward the viewer with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. Created in 1907, it was initially used on the $20 Gold Double Eagle.

For the reverse side of 2024 1 oz Gold Eagles, the mint features a new depiction of the American bald eagle introduced in 2021. This design from Jennie Norris shows the head of the eagle in left-profile relief as it gazes off into the distance.
